ActionAid to provide school, health structures in Bauchi IDPs settlement.

The ActionAid Nigeria, has pledged to provide temporary school and health structures for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Rindibe community of Bauchi state.

ActionAid Nigeria, Head of Programme, Mrs Suwaiba Jibrin, who disclosed this in Bauchi, said the two-week survey conducted in Rindibe IDP community by ActionAid revealed that lack of structures for school children and health care services centres was worrisome.

“The findings revealed that the children don’t attend school and the nutritional status of the children, pregnant and lactating women are worrisome as the inhabitants of the IDP community are in dire need.

“Their living condition is deplorable with little or no access to key interventions such as water, sanitation and hygiene,  food, medicine, school and other non food items not acceptable based on international standards and practice,” she said

According to her, ActionAid is committed to providing temporary structures such as tents to be used for school and health facilities.

The head of programme said the NGO would also provide other items for the commencement of the services at the IDP community in earnest

She, however, called on the Bauchi State Government to urgently come to the aid of the IDPs scattered across the state.

The Executive Director of Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative’ (FAWOYDI) , Hajiya Maryam Garba revealed that FAWOYDI would continue to monitor the health and nutrition status of children, pregnant and lactating mothers.

Hajiya Maryam pledged to continue linking the IDP community with other partners for continuous support until they become self-support and reliant.
