The Kenya Advocacy Accelerator has appointed the Chairman Board of Trustee of the Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR), Dr Aminu Magashi Garba as member of its Advisory Board.

This was contained in a letter sent to Dr Magashi by the Advocacy Accelerator Executive Director, Wanjiku Kamau.

“The Advisory Committee is thrilled at the level of interest and the quality of the applicants. It was not easy to select just 14 members from the slate of over 60 incredibly strong candidates but we have tried to ensure representation across countries and regions and also to draw in members to the board from communities of advocates, donors, and media and research/academic institutions,” the letter read.

The Advocacy Accelerator is an exciting new platform being created to increase the skills, sharing among, and impact of advocates in East Africa and globally.

The initial areas of focus for the Advocacy Accelerator have been informed by extensive consultations with donors, researchers, and advocates across the globe, which are summarized in the report titled strengthening country-based advocacy for maximum impact.

Our correspondent report that the Advocacy Accelerator is housed within Amref Health Africa, the largest health NGO on the African continent.

The letter stated that the Advisory Board members will meet in-person annually to review progress and provide strategic input and guidance to Advocacy Accelerator leadership.

The Board will meet remotely at least three additional times each year to address ongoing issues. Advisory Board members are expected to join at least three of the scheduled meetings each year.

Dr Magashi is Civil Societies’ representative of the Global Financing Facility Investors Group and a member of the UHC2030 CSOs Pre-Advisory Group.

He founded and coordinates the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), a Pan African group that uses budget advocacy to influence adequate health sector finances, transparency and accountability.

He chairs the Board of Trustees of CHR, a leading evidence based health advocacy NGO in Nigeria.
