The Kano State House of Assembly has re-affirmed its commitment to enact laws that would guide and improve the activities of herbal medicine practice in the state.

The Speaker of the House, Alhaji Kabiru Rurum, said this when he received members of the state Traditional Medicine Association in Kano.

He said herbal medicine is one of the accepted medicines worldwide if provided through the right production processes, especially in terms of research and hygiene.

The speaker challenged the traditional medicine practitioners to apply the modern method while producing their medicines with the aim of achieving the desired goals.

“If you are able to improve the way you produce herbal medicine in the state, in near future, Kano and Nigeria in general will compete with other international practitioners.

“Therefore, we are going to do everything possible to ensure that laws that will guide such production are provided in order to achieve the desired success,” he said.

The Senior Special Adviser to Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Traditional Medicine, Sheikh Haruna Muhammad, had earlier said the aim of their visit was to intimate the legislature on the activities of traditional medicine practitioners in the state.

According to him, the association is strategising on a law proposed to be presented before the House of the Assembly for consideration.

He said that the proposed law would assist the Assembly in its efforts to enact laws that would guide activities of traditional medicine practitioners in the state.

Sheikh Muhammad commended the House for their determination and tireless commitment in providing laws that would make great impact on the general public.
