Kano launches #OpenKNSMoH to improve accountability in Health sector

Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) has commended the Kano State government for the renewed commitment to ensure openness and accountability in healthcare financing and delivery in the state.

This commendation came on Thursday at the official lunch of #OpenKNSMoH by the State Commissioner of Health, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso in Kano.

CHR’s advocacy officer, Salisu Yusuf who spoke on behalf of the organization said the launch will help the state in achieving new milestones for health development and urged all stakeholders to support the process for its sustainability.

In his remark, the commissioner of health, Dr Kabiru Getso, expressed satisfaction at the successes the state has recorded in health care delivery and financing and stated that the #OpenKNSMoH will ensure inclusiveness, openness and accountability as health information will be shared with the public through the new hash tag.

He said: “The lunch of #OpenKNSMoH is line with our efforts to ensure that we strengthen accountability in our health sector, and improve access to quality healthcare. I am committed to ensure openness in our health care financing system, and we will be accountable to the kind of care that will be given to the people and how every resources for health is spent.

“Kano state is committed to maintaining and improving its immunization coverage, for 2017 we have ensured that N350 million is allocated for immunization, already N290 million out of the N350 million has been deposited in the Immunization account, and we will ensure judicious spending of the funds that we get.”

The commissioner also stated that “we are doing alot towards ensuring the delivery of quality healthcare services in the state including procurement of the state-of-the-art equipment and the establish of the Kano State Contributory Health Care Scheme as well as the Kano State Healthcare Trust Fund”.
