“Resident doctors will continue to work assiduously to uplift the image of the health sector. “There is an extant circular on the RTP released by the Federal Ministry of Health on July 18, 2014 which is not being implemented by some tertiary health institutions in the country.
“The RTP Act passed long ago by the National Assembly is still awaiting presidential assent; it is central to addressing challenges in Post Graduate Medical Training in Nigeria. “However, we call on the President to please sign the RTP Act into law to ensure that issues leading to strike actions in the health sector are settled.
“Also, the Federal Government should meet our outstanding demands and agreements. We are deeply concerned about the plight of patients and the need to protect the country’s health sector and shelve all actions capable of hampering industrial harmony in the health sector.
Chinaka said that NARD would continue to explore all avenues necessary in resolving disputes, particularly with the mind that the patients were important in the sector.
He noted that during the recent industrial action by Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), NARD worked assiduously to provide medical healthcare services to the public. He said that NARD embraced other health workers who were coming back from their strike, saying that doctor were partners in progress.
