Zamfara devotes N7bn to healthcare in 2017

The Zamfara State Government has devoted N7 billion for the renovation of hospitals and procurement of medical as well as hospital equipment as part of its commitment to improving healthcare in the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Sulaiman Gummi disclosed this in an interview with newsmen after defending the ministry’s 2017 budget proposal at the State House of Assembly in Gusau, the state capital.

Alhaji Gummi added that apart from total renovation of the general hospitals in the state there were plans to upgrade three general hospitals selected from the senatorial districts in the state to
referral.

He said the state government would recruit medical doctors, nurses and other health workers to ensure availability of relevant human resources in the sector.

He commended the state government for allocating 38 per cent of the 2017 proposed budget to the health sector, which he described as a welcome development.

He said the state government was commitment to the improvement of healthcare in the state.

He also commended development partners for supporting healthcare in the state.
