The Federal Government has announced the commencement of the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), a presidential initiative to provide immediate financial relief to vulnerable Nigerians.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen.

According to him, NERSI is a shock-responsive cash transfer programme designed to help millions of vulnerable households cope with global food inflation and the rising cost of essential goods.

Under the intervention, eligible beneficiaries will receive ₦50,000 monthly to meet basic needs and stabilise in the short term. The amount will be reviewed periodically in line with changes in the cost of living.

Doro said the Ministry is partnering with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure secure, fast and transparent delivery of funds. Beneficiaries will receive an SMS from one of the providers requesting consent, which he clarified is genuine.

“Once consent is given, payment is made directly to the beneficiary’s account or mobile wallet,” he said.

He noted that NERSI complements existing federal social protection programmes and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to build household resilience and economic stability.

The Minister stressed that beneficiaries are not required to apply, pay any fee or register through agents, and warned against sharing PIN or BVN details.

“Never share your PIN or BVN with anyone. If you are unsure about any message, or anyone asks you for money, call the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222,” he added.

For further updates on the programme, the ministry said information are available at www.fmhapr.gov.ng/nersi
