The Kaduna State Maternal Accountability Mechanism (KADMAM) has conferred its Technical Luminary in Healthcare Accountability Award on Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, in recognition of his outstanding technical support and invaluable contributions to advancing maternal and child health in the state.

A statement issued by Malam Jalo Sulaiman, AMG Foundation’s Director of Operations, said Dr Magashi was honoured by the KADMAM in appreciation of the role he played 11 years ago, which led to the establishment of the association.

It would be recall that 11 years ago, between 2014/2015, Dr Magashi facilitated two meetings that led to the establishment of KADMAM, an active mechanism that supports the Kaduna State healthcare sector.

The award was presented as part of post-activities of the recently concluded Open Kaduna Health Sector Policy Dialogue held in Kaduna which brought together stakeholders from the government, civil society organizations and development partners to strengthen accountability in the health sector.

Presenting the award on behalf of KADMAM, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Alhaji Mustapha Jumare, said Dr Magashi has remained a pillar of accountability in the health sector not only in Kaduna State but across the country.

“His technical support has positioned KADMAM on the global map,” he noted.

Alhaji Jumare further invited Dr Magashi to join the KADMAM Board of Trustees (BoT), and also sought his support to strengthen partnerships and linkages for KADMAM.

He added that the mechanism currently works across Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N), immunization and family planning.

Receiving the award, Dr Magashi, who is the Coordinator of Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), Chair of AMG Foundation and a key technical supporter of KADMAM, expressed delight for the remarkable growth of the mechanism over the last decade. He further thanked members of KADMAM for finding him worthy of recognition.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Muhammad Usman, Special Assistant to the Speaker, House of Representatives, Right Hon. Tajuddeen Abbas, commended KADMAM for its strides over the years.

He also congratulated Dr Magashi, describing him as a tireless advocate who dedicates his time and expertise to improving Nigeria’s health sector.

In his remarks, the Co-Chair of KADMAM, Alhaji Garba Muhammad, attributed many of the organization’s success stories to the sustained contributions and support of partners like Dr Magashi.

He highlighted the institutionalization of the quarterly Open Kaduna Health Sector Dialogue which brings together government officials, development partners, CSOs and other stakeholders to promote accountability and improve service uptake particularly at the primary healthcare level.
