8000 mothers gets N30m worth of nutritional support in Jigawa

The Child Development Grant Programme (CDGP) has disbursed more than N30 million to 8,431 expectant and breast -feeding mothers in Kirikasamma Local Government Council of Jigawa state.

The CDGP supported by the British Department for International Development (DFID) is designed to control malnutrition and maternal mortality rate in the state. The programme which seeks to control hunger was being run in Kirikasamma and two other selected LGAs in the state. .

Desk Officer of the programme in the area, Malam Ibrahim Umar, the told newsmen that the beneficiaries were drawn from the 10 wards in the area.

He said that each of the women received N3,500 stipends from the programme to improve their nutritional intake.

“The programme is providing N3, 500 on monthly basis to the registered women, beginning from the early pregnancy up to the end of breast feeding period,” he said.

Malam Umar added that the gesture was to enable expectant and breast feeding mothers eat better meals and ensure healthy feeding of infants.

According to him, the programme has been providing support to mothers in the last two years, adding that it had recorded significant progress in the control of maternal mortality in the state.

The desk officer urged the beneficiaries to ensure an effective utilisation of the money to improve their health status.

Also commenting, Caretaker Committee Chairman of the LGA, Alhaji Muhammad Kani, commended the gesture, adding that it would enhance healthcare delivery and pledged continued supports from the council to facilitate smooth implementation of the programme.
