Borno State Government said about 1,163 kids whose primary education was truncated after their families were displaced by insurgency seven years ago, have returned to classrooms in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Areas of the state.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum was said to have supervised a school enrollment campaign in which the kids were registered.
A statement issued by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s Adviser on Public Relations and Strategy, Isa Gusau, the enrollment campaign in which the pupils were registered was supervised by the governor.
He said the pupils who were from Guzamala and Abadam LGAs in Northern Borno, had been out of school since the displacement of their parents and guardians, by Boko Haram, following attacks on communities they lived.
Governor Zulum appealed to parents to allow their children to enroll in schools and stay until graduation.
He said: “Where functional schools were provided by government, social welfare assistance from government will eventually be restricted to parents who allow their children and wards to attend schools whether western or combined curriculum of Islamic and western education.”
While addressing secondary school students in Damasak and those who have written their senior schools certificate exams, in preparation for higher institutions, Zulum promised them government’s support, the statement said.
The governor spent three days in Damasak town and was accompanied by Senator Abubakar Kyari, state Caretaker Chairman of the APC, Ali Bukar Dalori and Commissioner for agriculture, Engineer Bukar Talba.
