Gov Abba-Kabir lauds taskforce on evacuation of waste

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has commended the Joint Task Force on refuse evacuation in the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Environment, Malam Ismail Gwammaja, on Monday in Kano.

Yusuf hailed the committee for successfully evacuating over 600 trucks of waste within seven days of its operation.

He made the commendation while receiving the report of the exercise from the members of the committee led by its Chairman, Amb. Haruna Danzago, at the weekend.

Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abdullahi Bichi, the governor also commended some private companies and construction firms supporting the administration in the ongoing evacuation of waste.

While thanking the committee for a job well done, Yusuf however charged them to consolidate and continue to mop up the remaining waste in all nooks and crannies within Kano metropolis.

He recommitted the resolve of his administration to the safety and health of the populace, adding that this will only be achieved through the provision of clean and tidy environment.

Governor Yusuf enjoined residents of the state to complement government efforts by avoiding indiscriminate dumping of waste, especially on water ways and major roads, as a matter of collective responsibility.

He said that the state government would not tolerate such kind of unguided behaviours.

Presenting the report earlier, Danzago, restated members’ readiness to work assiduously for the betterment of the state.
