HEDCODEC, YOSPIS announce 20 Winners for 2nd Dr Magashi’s Heroic Health Awards

The Heroic Discovery and Community Development Centre (HEDCODEC) in collaboration with the Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS), have announced 20 winners for the 2023 ‘Dr Aminu Magashi Annual Heroic Health Award.’

The award was celebrated to commemorate the 2023 United Nations Public Service Day while joining Nigeria government, NGOs, and the rest of the world for this special day.

The organisations report that the Annual Heroic Health Award was instituted in 2022 to celebrate unsung frontline health workers who have made significant contributions to saving lives.

The United Nations Public Service Day is celebrated on June 23 of every year and it was designated by the United Nations General Assembly’s resolution A/RES/57/277 of 2003, to “celebrate the value and virtue of public service to the community.”

The United Nations Economic and Social Council established that the United Nations Public Service Awards be bestowed on Public Service Day for contributions made to the cause of enhancing the role, prestige, and visibility of public service.

Announcing the winners, Mrs. Monsurah Abdullahi, the Program Director, HEDCODEC, said the award process is a product of a rigorous, painstaking and highly competitive exercise conducted by the award committee.

She said 78 entries were received in five award categories while 74 were shortlisted from both Kano and Federal Capital Territory as 10 winners from Kano (5 males & 5 females) and 10 winners from FCT were announced.

On her part, The Executive Director, YOSPIS, Zainab Nasir Ahmad states, “Congratulatory letters have been sent to the winners and a date will be fixed within the week-long celebration of UN Public Service Day for award presentation ceremony.”

In Kano state, in the Male Category Award, Hisbullah Munnir from Sheka PHC in Kumbotso LGA won the Most Dedicated Volunteer Staff Award, Jibrim Muhammad Nas of Kaura Goje PHC of Nassarawa LGA clinched the Most Punctual Staff, Ali Ismail Muhammad of Gwammaja MCH of Dala LGA won the Most Safety Compliance Staff; Abubakar Ubale Garba of Lausu Health Post in Rano LGA won the Most Patient Friendly Staff and Musa Abdulkadir Magashi of Dan Maliki PHC of Kumbotso LGA clinched the Most Hygienic Award.

While in the Female Category, Fatima Abbas Muhammad of Tarauni PHC in Tarauni LGA won the Most Dedicated Volunteer Staff, Hasiya Nasidi from Madatai PHC in Kano Municipal LGA Won the Most Punctual Staff Award, Hassana Aminu of Dawakin Dakata PHC from Nassarawa LGA won the Most Safety Compliance Staff; Hadiza Aliyu of Goron Dutse Health Clinic of Gwale LGA won the Most Patient Friendly Staff and Hafsat Ibrahim Saminu Dantsinke PHC of Tarauni LGA won the Most Hygienic Staff.

For Abuja, the Male Category Winners are; Iorbee Kaior of Sabon Gari PHC of Bwari Area Council won the Most Dedicated Volunteer Staff, Yusuf Samo of Old Kutunku PHC in Gwagwalada Area Council won the Most Punctual Staff, Umar Bako of Gwagwalada Township Clinic of Gwagwalada Area Council won the Most Safety Compliance Staff, Isma’il Ibrahim and Mohammed Isah all of Old Kutunku of Gwagwalada Area Council won the Most Patient Friendly Staff and Most Hygienic Staff, respectively.

For the Abuja Female Category, Amos Grace Ojotule of Gwagwalada Township Clinic in Gwagwalada Area Council won the Most Dedicated Volunteer Staff, Salmat A. Salihu of Dutse Makaranta PHC in Bwari Area Council won the Most Punctual Staff, Toyin Oniyilo of Sabon Gari PHC in Bwari Area Council won the Most Safety Compliance Staff, Madinat Uthman of Mabushi PHC from Abuja Municipal Area Council won the Most Patient Friendly Staff and   Iyabo Omotoke Balogun of Kuje PHC in Kuje Area Council won the Most Hygienic Staff.

Heroic Discovery and Community Development Center (HEDCODEC) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to improve access to qualitative healthcare in Nigeria.

While Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) is a youth-led NGO in Kano established to promote healthy behavior and prevent social vices among youth.
