C/CAN partners Nigerian Cancer Society to improve cancer care

The City Cancer Challenge (C/CAN) said it is collaborating with the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS), to address the challenges of access to cancer care in Nigeria.

The Abuja Manager for C/CAN, Mr Chris Chukwunyere Njoku, stated this during a meeting with the President of the NCS, Dr Adamu Alhassan Umar, held at the headquarters of the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) in Abuja.

He outlined his goals of the centre to include leveraging data-driven design for funding and credibility, collaborative problem-solving and seeking champions to work on solving problems.

Mr Njoku added that others are; improving African countries’ credit quality standards, establishing a model of excellence for Nigeria and other African countries in area of cancer research and development of locally relevant solutions.

He emphasised the importance of stakeholders’ engagement in the design process and implementation of activities of the C/CAN.

On his part, Dr Umar said the NCS is delighted and ready to partner with the C/CAN initiative to achieve the set goals.

The NCS president stressed the importance of wide consultation at the planning stage to ensure all cancer stakeholders are onboard the vision of the city challenge.

He offered the platform of NCS for mapping stakeholders to promote robust participation.

During the meeting, Dr Umar, President of the NCS introduced the Abuja city manager of the C/CAN to the Coordinator/Chief Executive Officer of AHBN, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba.

Dr Magashi informed Mr Chris of the interest in Kano to learn and use the Abuja model to make Kano the second Cancer City in Nigeria.
