NAFDAC receives Africa’s medical products regulation award

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has received “Africa’s medical products regulation award 2023.”

A statement in the NAFDAC news output, said the Director-General of the agency, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, was presented with the honour by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The statement disclosed that the NAFDAC boss was bestowed with the honour at the 6th Biennial Scientific Conference on Medical Products Regulation in Africa (SCoMRA) in Cairo, Egypt from December 5 to December 7.

The award was received on her behalf by Asmau Abubakar, an Assistant Chief Regulatory Officer of the agency.

According to the statement, AUDA-NEPAD and WHO applauded the transformative leadership of the NAFDAC DG.

The statement disclosed that the accolade highlighted the visionary approach of Adeyeye, recognising the pioneering initiatives such as the attainment of ML3 within four years.

The international organisations in the statement, also recognised Prof. Adeyeye for using digital tools like the Med Safety App for ADR reporting and GS1-driven traceability for tracking more than one and half million secondary packages of COVID-19 vaccines during the pandemic for supply chain visibility.

According to the statement, the commendation emphasises NAFDAC’s groundbreaking efforts in combatting substandard and fake medical products, reinforcing the agency’s dedication to ensuring the safety and authenticity of medicinal products in Africa.
