Kaduna State Government has taken proactive measures to prevent the outbreak of Lassa fever in the State.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health and Humanity, Dr. Paul Manya Dogo made this known while addressing newsmen yesterday after the executive council meeting at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna.
He said, his ministry has alerted the disease surveillance officers and medical directors of all hospitals and health institutions across the state to urgently report any suspicious case for adequate investigation.
The permanent secretary added that hospitals have been directed to institute strict infection, prevention and control measures and to also establish standard precautionary measures to reduce the risk of transmission.
“Members of the general public should also imbibe the healthy habit of covering their mouth and nose while coughing and sneezing; washing their hands regularly, avoid leftover food and indiscriminate dumping of refuse which attracted rodents that breeds the Lassa fever,” Dr.
Dogo said.
Accordingly, the Federal Ministry of Health has said that, the current Lassa fever outbreak has claimed 41 lives from 93 reported cases in Bauchi, Niger, Kano, Nassarawa, Taraba, Gombe, Plateau, Rivers, Edo and Oyo states.
