The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has partnered with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, for the development of the health care sector in the country.
Speaking Friday in Abuja, during a visit to the Mabushi primary health care centre, CEO of GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, Dr Sania Nishtar, said the organisation was poised to “render assistance wherever possible for Nigeria to overcome challenges in the health care sector.”
“The UN is committed to working with the federal government of Nigeria to ensure every child is vaccinated against deadly diseases. We have taken a look at the facilities and we will provide every support needed. We will be your ally and we will stand with you to overcome health challenges as a country,” she said.
Earlier, the Executive Director of NPHCDA, Dr Muyi Aina, who represented the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, said the government was “open to good initiatives by the UN as the goal of the partners is to see that the health care sector in Nigeria is working.”
On his part, the Hakimi of Mabushi, Hassan Dangana, implored the officials to look into the employment of qualified youth of the community that studied courses bordering on health.
He said, “We want to appreciate GAVE for the good work they are doing. We are grateful that Mabushi was selected as the final destination, after the officials had paid a visit to the presidency. By bringing the NGO here, it means that Mabushi will continue to grow.
“However, as much as we appreciate the king’s gesture, we want to make a request for the employment of our qualified youth. There are some youth that studied courses related to public health. Some have master’s degree in health studies. So, we will be glad for them to be employed.”
