The Kano State Police Command in partnership with Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMG Foundation) has presented awards and commendations to 58 officers of the Command who exemplify excellent performance.
Also, 23 key community policing stakeholders were recognised for their contributions in ensuring peace and security in the state.
The event which took place at the Police Officer’s Mess had in attendance, the outgone CP, AIG Muhammad Usaini Gumel, the new Kano Police Commissioner, CP Sulaiman Dogo, Chairman, AMG Foundation, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba and other eminent personalities.
During the event, the outgone Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, who was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, also bids farewell to officers and men of the command.
In his speech, AIG Gumel said he is leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and motivate others.
He commended all the police officers, security agencies, members of the Police Public Relations Committee (PCRC), government officials, private sector partners, media practitioners, traditional, religious institutions, and AMG foundation for the support accorded to him during his tenure.
“To my colleagues – officers, and men of the Kano State Police Command – I am immensely proud of each one of you. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to duty have been the driving force behind our successes. Thank you for your support, loyalty, and friendship and I urge you to continue to pursue excellence in your duties.
“To the government and people of Kano State, thank you for your support and cooperation during my tenure. Your efforts in supporting the police and sister security agencies in the maintenance of law and order, combating crime, and building a safer and more secure state have been commendable,” he said.
AIG Gumel said through community partnerships and stakeholder engagements, the police provided the necessary security and ensured seamless and peaceful election that ushered in the current administration.
He said, “Upon my official assumption of duty as Commissioner of Police on May 2, 2023, we faced several security challenges, including armed robbery, thuggery, car theft, the threats of banditry along the prone local government areas, kidnapping, and other violent crimes. These threats were not only endangering public safety but also hindering governance and socioeconomic development in the state.
“We adopted both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches, we significantly reduced crime rates. As a result, a total of 723 repentant thugs surrendered themselves, including their weapons.
“Subsequently, they were all mentored and have today turned away from life of crime. These strategies among others have led to a substantial decrease in crimes and criminal activities.”
In his speech, the Chair of AMG Foundation, Dr Magashi congratulated AIG Gumel for attaining the new rank, the new Kano CP and all the awardees for the milestone achievements.
He further announced the AMG Foundation’s commitment to annually support the Kano Police Command in organising the CP’s Award and Commendations.
Dr Magashi also appealed to the state government and the police command to revisit and attend to the issue of the over 600 repentant youth in order to get them committed and productive in the society.
