The Rotary International has pledged to promote education, healthcare, economic development and environmental protection in the community.
President of Rotary Club of Wuse Central, Dr Tomola Emaleku, made the pledge in his acceptance speech as the 26th President of the club during the investiture ceremony on Monday night in Abuja.
He took over from Dr Albert Alkali, the immediate past President of the club.
Emaleku, an Associate Accountant and Fraud Examiner (ACCrFA), was inaugurated as the President for the Magic of Rotary year 2024 -2025.
According to him, the club will continue to strive for excellence in all its dealings in the year ahead.
“We will work together to make a positive impact in our community and beyond, through projects that promote education, healthcare, economic development and environment protection.
“I urge lovers of Rotary to look critically at these projects with the view of supporting us, to actualise these projects and uplift our community in need of it.”
He pledged to focus on peace building and conflict prevention, disease prevention and treatment, water sanitation and hygiene, maternal and child health.
Ms Sarah Sanda, former Special Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on Media, commended the project plans to be apt in tackling the community challenges for the year.
Sanda, who was also a past president of the club, promised to support the project implementation through fundraising to ensure the completion.
“This is specifically in planting of trees that is very important for the environment with everything we are seeing in land degradation and deforestation among others.
“We need more people to join us, we cannot do this work alone, we call on well-meaning Nigerians and international organisations to support the project implementation.
“What we are giving is our time, resources and talent, but if we have the resources, we must use it for the good of humanity,” she said.
The highlight of the event was the official inauguration of the 2024-2025 Board of Directors, presentation of awards to distinguished personalities and virtual presentation of the proposed projects.
