WHO to support Kano Gov’t accelerate Universal Health Coverage

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has renewed its pledge to support the Kano State Government accelerate its attaining Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

WHO Country Representative, Dr Kazadi Mulombo Walter, gave the commitment when he paid a courtesy visit to the State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KASCHMA).

He explained that effort would focus on technical support to catalyse improved quality care across public health facilities in the state.

Represented by Dr Mayana Sanusi Abubakar, WHO Field Officer, Kano, Dr Walter disclosed the intention of the United Nations agency to equally strengthen the capacity of KASHCMA’s staff for efficient delivery.

The WHO chief cited strategic areas of urgent intervention in Kano’s healthcare contributory scheme, stressing attention to policy review to enhance the use of data for decision- making.

Walter applauded the government’s political will to commit huge resources to the health population and the achievement of the UHC.

He said the enactment of new policies and revamping of legislative action on the framework of health contributory schemes was reducing out-of-pocket health expenditures and improving access to healthcare.

Executive Secretary of KASHCMA, Dr Rahila Aliyu Mukhtar, appreciated the WHO team for the visit, adding that since her assumption of assumption, she has been working hard to ensure the successful implementation of the scheme in the state.
