Kano NGOs held dinner with Women Affairs’ Commissioner, hail 2025 Budget proposal

Kano State Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) led by Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMG Foundation) hosted a dinner in honour of Commissioner, Ministry of Women, Children and Disabled, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani (HOD) on Monday at the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) Building in Kano.

In his welcome address, the Technical Advisor, Kano State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Dr Aminu Magashi Garba congratulated the commissioner on her recent reassignment to Ministry of Women, Children and Disabled from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Dr Magashi, who also the Chair of the AMG Foundation, further commended Governor Yusuf for approving adequate funds which is a little over N4 billion, and about 0.8% of the total state budget for the women, children and disabled ministry in 2025 for maximum impact.

Director of operations at the AMG Foundation, Jalo Sulaiman, explained that the ministry’s 2025 budget captured the following;⁠ “⁠establishment of many women and social centres across the state, establishment of sexual assault referral centres across the four emirates and provision of economic empowerment for victims of drug addicts.

“Others are; provision of free counselling services for victims of sexual gender-based violence, rehabilitation of special schools under the ministry, economic empowerment for women, reactivation of children’s parliament and procurement and distribution of food stuffs to Shahuci Old People Home, Kwalli VVF Rehabilitation Centre and Nassarawa Children’s Home among others,” Jalo said.

The director of operations further stated that the dinner was organised to enhance the relationship between the ministry, NGOs and partners in the state, and to intensity collaboration for the implementation of the ministry’s 2025 budget and Annual Operational Plan.

According to Jalo, NGOs and partners at the dinner further advocated for the state government to step up for establishment of the Commission for People with Disabilities.

In her speech, the Commissioner, Hajiya Amina Sani (HOD) commended the foresight of the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in approving adequate funds for her ministry in this year’s budget, in order to cater for the needs of women, children and disable in the state.

She further thanked Dr Magashi and his foundation for hosting the dinner and commended the support he gave her when she headed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in his capacity as the ministry’s Technical Advisor.

Hajiya Amina assured the CSOs and PWDs in Kano that Governor Yusuf will by the grace of Allah establish the PWDs commission in the state to improve their wellbeing.
