The Africa Health Agenda International Conference (AHAIC) 2025 Secretariat has opened nominations for the AHAIC 2025 Women in Global Health Awards.
AHAIC stated that the awards recognise outstanding African women and male allies who are driving transformative change in the health sector.
Ms Maureen Cherongis, Head of Media at Amref Health Africa, confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen.
The awards are hosted by Amref Health Africa in partnership with Africa CDC, WHO AFRO, and Rwanda’s Ministry of Health.
The conference will bring together leaders, policymakers, and innovators to discuss pressing health issues, showcase new technologies, and foster collaborations to strengthen health systems across Africa.
Cherongis stated that the awards ceremony will take place on March 5 during AHAIC in Kigali, Rwanda, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
“Five exceptional individuals will be honoured for contributions in innovation, climate action, youth empowerment, community leadership, and economic transformation, key areas reshaping Africa’s health landscape,” she said.
She noted that the nomination deadline is February 14.
According to her, the awards celebrate not only women’s achievements but also male allies who champion gender equity in global health.
Cherongis said, by highlighting their efforts, AHAIC aims to inspire future leaders dedicated to improving health systems and outcomes across the continent.
“As Africa tackles evolving health challenges, the AHAIC 2025 Women in Global Health Awards provide a platform to honour changemakers driving significant progress in the region’s health sector,” she said.
