Kano State Government has distributed 120,000 cartons of chalk to schools across the state, in a bid to boost effective teaching and learning in public schools.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Commissioner for Education, Dr Ali Abubakar Haruna Makoda, said the initiative aligns with the current administration’s resolve to prioritise education and improve the sector.

Dr Makoda said the intervention was a demonstration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s continued commitment to overhauling the education sector by providing essential teaching and learning materials.

“The administration is determined to ensure a conducive and effective teaching atmosphere. What we are witnessing today is a clear demonstration of our commitment to the education sector,” he said.

The commissioner recalled that in October 2023, Governor Yusuf flagged off the distribution of instructional materials worth billions of naira to schools across the 44 local government areas of the state. He urged school heads to ensure the judicious use of the chalks.

The items included textbooks, exercise books, whiteboards, whiteboard markers, school bags, sandals and uniforms.

Also speaking, the Chairman of SUBEB, Alhaji Yusuf Kabir, commended the government for its sustained efforts to reposition education in the state.

He assured the commissioner that the chalks would be distributed to all the designated schools for proper utilisation.

The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Education, SUBEB, and other stakeholders in the education sector.
