Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has approved the implementation of an enhanced Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for Medical Doctors in the state Civil Service.
A statement by the Secretary of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Zamfara State branch, Dr Hussaini D. Haruna said the significant milestone was a result of a sustained and strategic advocacy efforts by Chairman of the NMA, Dr Ibrahim Jibril Hano.
He added that the achievement received the unwavering support of the NMA President, Professor Bala Mohammed Audu, was in Zamfara state on the invitation of Governor Lawal, to witness the commissioning of the newly remodelled Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital and other vital healthcare projects.
The statement added that the approved CONMESS package includes; “a robust rural posting allowance, to be be implemented for doctors working outside the state capital.
“Skipping of CONMESS 2 as implemented for Doctors in the Federal Civil Service and opening the bar for career progression for doctors to terminate at CONMESS 7 instead of CONMESS 6.”
According to Dr Haruna, the approval has position Zamfara state as the highest-paying employer of doctors in Northern Nigeria.
“This bold step reflects the shared commitment of the Zamfara State Government and the NMA towards the universal applicability of equitable remuneration for medical doctors across Nigeria which is a core priority of the current NMA leadership.
“We extend our profound gratitude to Governor Dauda Lawal, for his visionary and transformative approach to healthcare delivery in Zamfara State.
“We also sincerely appreciate the Commissioner for Health, Dr Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, for her exceptional dedication and support to the NMA and the medical profession in the state,” the statement added.
