Dr Sununu reaffirms FG’s commitment of durable solutions to IDPs

The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu has re-emphasised Federal Government’s commitment to providing durable solutions to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) in Nigeria.

The Director Information and Public Relations in the ministry, Iliya Rhoda Ishaku, said the minister made this known when a delegation from the Stand With The Girl (SWAG) Initiative, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja.

Dr Sununu said the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to providing dignified livelihood to vulnerable persons, development of resettlement cities for IDPs, promoting education, mental health among others.

He encouraged the IDPs to cooperate with the host communities for a peaceful co-existence.

The minister enjoined critical stakeholders to partner with the Ministry to address the plight of vulnerable persons in the society.

The leader of the delegation, Margret Bolaji, said the goal of the organisation is to ensure that every girl reaches her full potentials.

The organisation works in IDP Camps in the FCT and Borno State, among others.

According to her, the delegation was in the Ministry to solicit for greater collaboration and to appreciate the Minister of State for attending the First IDP Conference held in April, 2025, co-hosted by the Ministry.

She added that some of the output of the conference include, to create a more sustainable funding mechanism for the IDPs, prioritise education, health and well-being of women and girls in the IDP camps. 

She stated the organisation’s readiness to collaborate with the Ministry to ensure that the voices of the voiceless are heard.

Present at the meeting include the Director Information and Public Relations, the Special Assistant to the Minister of State and other members of the delegation.
