Bauchi State Accountability Mechanism for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (BaSAM) has called on Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar to Adopt- A- Health Facility (AAHF) and give two hours of his time in a month to visit and ascertain the activities carried out in the facility.

The recommendation came after examined the scorecard of service delivery on Maternal, New born and Child health (MNCH) in the state from January to December, 2015.

BaSAM, a body of civil society organizations (CSOs), the media and health professionals, made the call at the end of its 2016 first Quarter meeting held at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC), Bauchi.

BaSAM said every pregnancy needs special attention and care at the community as well as the facility level.

According to the group, the AAHF is another measure of identifying and solving the socio-political problems facing the health sector and enhancing effective monitoring.

The group also urged government at the state and local government levels, as well as National and State Assembly members, to also implement AAHF in their constituencies, saying it will help address
the challenges and checked services provided at various facilities in the state.

The body observed that development partners and the state government have enormously expended and budgeted huge sums of money to the sector, “yet the sector is crumbling under the weight of lack of motivated and qualified personnel, especially nurses and midwives, frequent out-of-stock syndrome of basic essential drugs and high rate of maternal deaths among others.”
