The new Director General of the Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board (KSPHCMA), Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, was tasked on a 7-point Advocacy Agenda.
In a statement issued to congratulate Prof Salisu on his appointment, Coordinator of the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, urged the new DG of the KSPHCMA to kindly take the 7-point agenda into consideration.
The 7-point agenda includes; strengthen internal governance and coordination via revamping the regular senior management meetings with clear agenda, deliverables and actionable points and well documented.
Strengthen the implementation and funds utilisation of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund across all BHCPF’s PHCs through improved supportive supervision, monitoring and convening meetings with relevant stakeholders and institutionalisation of the budget accountability scorecard inline with the BHCPF2.0 approved manual/guideline.
Others are; Collaborate with the State Ministry of Health to promote timely release and utilisation of Kano State Government Immunisation Finances and strengthen the implementation of the Basket Fund MoU with donor partners.
Collaborate with the State Ministry of Health to promote accountability of all donors and development partners’ funded projects to the agency, strengthen and deepen collaboration with the Kano State Contributory Health Management Agency (KSCHMA) to ensure finances paid by KSCHMA to PHCs via capitation and fees for services are utilised for the intended beneficiaries.
The statement added that these can be further achieved by improving quality assurance and supportive supervision and working with all relevant stakeholders including NGOs, Ward Development Committee, Young Health Fellows and LGA supervisory health counsellors.
The remaining two points are; Improve the capacity of human resources for health in the agency and PHCs through regular training, mentoring, coaching and motivation by applying standardised tools and templates, and strengthen internal and external communication and strategic information sharing with stakeholders by taking advantage of the power of ICT and huge media presence in Kano state.
Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim was appointed as the Director General of the KSPHCMA by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen health sector reforms in Kano State.
