The Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMG Foundation) and the Kano State Healthcare Forum have launched a one-year intervention to support emergency and accident services at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital (MMSH) in Kano State.

A statement by the AMG Foundation’s Director of Operations Jalo Sulaiman, said the initiative aims to complement the Kano State government’s efforts in providing effective emergency healthcare services to the population.

He said AMG Foundation and the Kano State Healthcare Forum have committed to procuring and donating drugs and consumables worth N2.4 million spread over 12 months to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department of the MMSH.

The intervention was flagged off last Friday, at the A&E department, led by Chairman of the AMG Foundation, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, alongside members of the Kano State Healthcare Forum, AMGF, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and the Chief Medical Director of MMSH, Dr Hussaini Muhammad.

In his speech, Dr Magashi stated that the decision to render support stemmed from the high demand for drugs and consumables in the A&E department, largely due to increased patient turnout resulting from insecurity-related cases.

“The gesture would last for 12 months, with a possibility of extension. This donation is not a one-time gesture; it will continue for 12 months, and we may extend it to cover the maternity department,” he said.

The statement added that, on a monthly basis, the AMG Foundation would allocate N200,000 to support the intervention.

“The items would be procured monthly from the hospital under the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) to support the hospital and enhance its internal revenue generation.”

The Matron of the A&E department, Madam Hassana, thanked the foundation and pledged to use the items judiciously to cater to the health needs of the vulnerable.

On his part, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Hussaini Muhammad, commended Dr Magashi and the AMG Foundation for the humanitarian services they are offering, and emphasized the need for accountability.

The A&E department would maintain a utilization register to document the usage of the items.
