Borno State Government has fixed December 2025 for the commencement of a Contributory Healthcare Insurance Scheme services for civil servants in the state.
The Board Chairperson of the Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA), Hajiya Mairo Bunu Lawan, made this known to newsmen shortly after the board’s meeting in Maiduguri.
The chairperson said that the scheme which was created in 2019 in the state has just been approved for implemented in the state’s formal sector.
“The governor approved the deduction of 3.5 per cent of the basic salary of each civil servant and political appointee.
“While the state government is going to add 6.5 per cent which is more than two times the contribution of the formal sector,” Hajiya Mairo said.
She said that the establishment of the scheme was aimed at eliminating the cost barrier in delivering healthcare to all residents and the target vulnerable groups.
“Although we have already captured 95,000 vulnerable and poor people. We have been working on them and it has been very successful,” she said.
The board chairperson said that for the formal sector, the agency would be enrolling an additional 25,000 in the system, adding that of the figure, 12,000 civil servants would start benefiting in the next three months.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of BOSCHMA, Dr Saleh Abba Kaza, said that the agency was out to give best quality healthcare service to the beneficiaries.
Dr Kaza said that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure high quality commodities were being supplied to the assigned facilities to render the healthcare services across the state.
