The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajuddeen, PhD, has approved the appointment of Hon. Muhammad Usman, a former member of the House of Representatives, as his Special Assistant.
Hon. Usman’s appointment, effective from April 2025, is to support the Speaker’s legislative agenda and ensure effective representation of various interests across Nigeria.
Hon. Usman received the appointment letter at the weekend from the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna. A development described by many stakeholders as a strong indication of the cordial relationship existing between the Speaker and Governor Uba Sani.
Health Reporters Newspaper reports that during Hon. Usman’s time at the House of Representatives, in the 8th National Assembly 2015 – 2019, he was praised for his experience and dedication to legislative functions, support to immunization finances and accountability, and effective representation of his constituents.

During his time at the 8th Assembly, he was the Deputy Chair Committee on Health Care Services, where he supported and sponsored legislations and motions aimed at strengthening the Nigerian Health System and improving the quality of health care delivery.
Among the key positions he held and still holding, Hon. Usman is the Chair of the Advisory Board of Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), where he brought his valuable expertise and experience in developmental work and legislative duties to bear his role at the AHBN.
As a member of the National Advocates of Health (NA4H), and prominent member of the Legislative Network for Universal Health Coverage (UHC), he has been a strong voice in advocating for increase and timely release of funds to the Health Sector.
Hon. Usman has extensive experience in the Public and Private Sector. He was twice Chairman of Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, a three times Commissioner in the State and a onetime General Manager, Corporate Affairs of Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited.

He was also the Chairman of the President’s Schools Debate Nigeria (PSDN), whose activities are exposing Nigerian students in public schools to reading culture and also advancing democratic values at an early age.
In a brief statement, Hon. Usman expressed gratitude and commitment to his new role, as a Special Assistant to the Speaker, and promised to work diligently and uphold the team’s values.
Hon. Usman was accompanied during the visit to Governor Uba Sani by the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Dr Abdulkadir Muazu Mayere.
