The Kano State Police Command, under the auspices of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), in partnership with Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) and Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMGF), is organizing a one-day sensitization workshop to combat hate speeches and fake news in the state.
A statement issued by the Kano State Command, Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said it is in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun on sustained community-based engagements.
The workshop, scheduled for Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026, at Aminu Dantata Auditorium, Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu University of Nigeria (KHAIRUN), aims to sensitize media stakeholders, including political gladiators, journalists, social media influencers, online media editors, and police officers, on addressing the menace of hate speech and fake news.
He said the initiative is in response to the recent surge in speeches, incitements, and statements capable of disrupting peace in the State, often spread through various media channels.
Health Reporters Newspaper reports that experts from the media, legal practitioners, and the police will facilitate the event.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Police Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urges all invited stakeholders to fully participate and contribute to promoting peace and stability in the State.
The command also appeals to the public to refrain from spreading hate speeches and fake news, and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
