The Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMGF) has announced the establishment of National Cancer Patients and Survivors (NaCaPS) Fund, a new initiative aimed at mobilizing support for cancer patients and survivors across Nigeria.

The fund was announced by Chairman of AMGF, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, during an Iftar gathering on Friday at the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) Headquarters in Abuja, as part of activities marking International Women’s Day 2026.

To kick-start the initiative, Dr Magashi announced a takeoff grant of N1 million to catalyse fundraising efforts and support the development of the fund’s operational framework.

He said the NaCaPS Fund will be jointly managed by the AHBN, Arewa Cancer Control Coalition (ACCC), and the AMG Foundation, ensuring strong partnership, transparency, and coordinated support for beneficiaries.

Dr Magashi explained that the fund aims to help alleviate the financial burden of cancer treatment for individuals and families struggling to make ends meet.

According to him, the NaCaPS will provide financial assistance for medical expenses, transportation, and other related costs.

“We recognise the significant financial strain that cancer treatment can place on families,” said Dr Magashi. “Our goal is to provide support and relief to those who need it most, and we hope that this fund will make a tangible difference in the lives of cancer patients and their loved ones.”

The AHBN Coordinator added that it was agreed that a meeting will be held after Sallah to develop the framework of the new Fund, open a dedicated bank account and set up a management team and its advisory board.

Health Reporters Newspaper reports that the NaCaPS is intended to support; Cost of Cancer Drugs, Consumables and Tests.

Cost of other associated illnesses, Cost of nutrition and feeding, Cost of Annual Insurance Coverage and Cost of Humanitarian and Economic Empowerment.
