Last Wednesday, March 18, 2026 marked the successful conclusion of the Vulnerable People Support and Development Initiative (V-PeSDI) Ramadan Bread Distribution initiative, which provided vital support to vulnerable households throughout the holy month.
A statement by Coordinator of V-PeSDI, Aftahana Dahiru Sarina, said from the beginning of Ramadan 2026, the organisation consistently distributed bread for Iftar to vulnerable populations.
He said the beneficiaries included residents of Kwalli VVF Centre, the Remand Home, Goron Dutse, and members of the Women’s Organization for Relief and Empowerment (WORE) located at Emir’s Palace in Kano State.
Health Reporters Newspaper reprots that the initiative brought joy, relief, and a sense of inclusion to beneficiaries, particularly in light of the prevailing economic hardship and food scarcity affecting many communities.
“For numerous households, the bread distribution served as a dependable source of nourishment to break their fast, easing the burden of daily survival during Ramadan.
“Feeding the poor during Ramadan carries immense social and spiritual significance. Beyond addressing immediate hunger, it fosters compassion, strengthens community bonds, and promotes dignity among vulnerable groups,” part of the statement read.

Sarina added that, “It also contributes to improved health outcomes, reduces the risk of malnutrition, and reinforces a culture of shared responsibility and generosity. Acts of giving during this sacred period multiply blessings and inspire collective efforts toward a more equitable society.
“Furthermore, the bread distribution initiative was made possible through the generous support of AMG Foundation. The Foundation has been providing bread donations for the past five years and has supported V-PeSDI directly for the last two years, recognizing the organization’s commitment to serving vulnerable populations, including persons with disabilities (PWDs).”
V-PeSDI expresses its deepest appreciation to the Chairman of AMG Foundation, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, for his unwavering support throughout the one-month Ramadan intervention.
Additionally, V-PeSDI also acknowledges the valuable collaboration and support of the Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR), Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS), and the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN).

“Their partnership, technical contributions, and shared commitment to humanitarian service significantly strengthened the reach and impact of the Ramadan Bread Distribution initiative.
“Through this collective effort, the intervention was more effectively coordinated and delivered, ensuring that assistance reached those who needed it most. V-PeSDI deeply appreciates their continued solidarity and dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable populations.”
The organization also calls on government bodies, development partners, and donor agencies to collaborate and partner with V-PeSDI in expanding interventions that improve the well-being and quality of life of vulnerable communities.
