The letter, titled “Recognition of Inclusive and Accessible Infrastructure for PWDs in Public and Private Buildings in Kano State,” highlights the urgent need to strengthen accessibility in infrastructure across the state.

Attached to the letter were copies of key legal frameworks supporting this cause.

These included the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, specifically Act No. 2, Part II, Section 28(6), which mandates that both public and private buildings must be designed to meet the needs of persons with disabilities.

Also included was the Kano State Persons with Disabilities (Amendment No. 1) Law 2022, where Section 28(f) clearly states that all community facilities must be accessible and inclusive.

In his response, the Commissioner, Nura Ma’aji, expressed appreciation for the engagement and acknowledged the importance of the initiative.

He affirmed that his ministry is committed to playing a key role in ensuring the delivery of accessible infrastructure for persons with disabilities across Kano State.
