The Chairman of the Aminu Garba Magashi Foundation (AMGF), Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, has congratulated Mrs Ummi Umar Musa on her nomination as an inaugural member of the Global Advisory Council of Vital Strategies.

In a congratulatory message issued on Monday, Dr Magashi described the appointment as well-deserved and a testament to Mrs. Musa’s commitment to public health and cancer advocacy in Nigeria and beyond.

He noted that Mrs. Ummi Musa, who is the Founder of Call Off Cancer Initiative and UHealth Africa, has consistently used her platform to advance awareness, prevention, and access to care for non-communicable diseases, particularly cancer.

According to him, her selection to Vital Strategies Global Advisory Council, a leading global public health organization, will not only project Nigeria’s health advocacy efforts on the international stage but also strengthen policy engagement around pressing health challenges.

Dr. Magashi expressed confidence that Mrs. Musa will bring valuable insights from the Nigerian context to the Council, which is expected to provide independent guidance to help shape Vital Strategies’ global health strategy and partnerships.

He prayed for her success on the Council and urged her to continue being a voice for vulnerable communities as Vital Strategies works to deepen its impact in global health.

Health Reporters Newspaper reports that Mrs Ummi Umar Musa, was invited to join the newly established Vital Strategies Global Advisory Council as one of its inaugural members.

In a letter signed by Dr. Mary-Ann Etiebet, President & CEO of Vital Strategies, the global public health organization said the Council was created to bring trusted external voices into its work and to provide independent, candid guidance as it evolves to meet current global health challenges.

The Council will serve as an advisory body to strengthen thinking on public health, shape strategy, deepen impact, and inform partnerships and positioning.

According to the invitation, Council members will have opportunities to engage throughout the year both formally and informally.

ā€œThis includes discussions on the sidelines of major international convenings, small group problem-solving sessions on specific health challenges, and one-on-one conversations with the President & CEO, based on availability. Full details on the Council’s mandate, objectives, and ways of working are contained in the attached Terms of Reference.

ā€œAs a first step, Vital Strategies will host new Council members for an informal dinner on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this September.

ā€œThe gathering is designed to enable members to meet, learn more about Vital Strategies’ priorities, and formally mark the launch of the Council. Further details will be communicated to members ahead of the event,ā€ part of the statement read.

The invitation described Musa’s work through Call Off Cancer Initiative and UHealth Africa as aligning with Vital Strategies’ mission to advance public health and save lives.

The organization expressed delight at having her join the endeavour and welcomed any questions she may have about the role.

Vital Strategies said it looks forward to her contribution as the Council begins its work at what it described as ā€œa consequential time for global health.ā€
