Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), with effect from August 27, 2026.
Enitan, currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, will succeed Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service upon attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Enitan, who hails from Osun State, is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service and has served at that level for seven years and seven months.
During his career as Permanent Secretary, he has served in the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President, before his current posting to the Federal Ministry of Education
The Presidency said the incoming HoCSF brings to his new assignment considerable institutional experience and a deep understanding of the workings of the Federal Civil Service.
President Tinubu charged Enitan to consolidate on the reforms and innovations already underway in the service and deepen professionalism and efficiency across the Federal bureaucracy.
He also tasked him with building a more effective and responsive Civil Service capable of delivering on the objectives of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President further urged the incoming HoCSF to provide leadership towards building a Civil Service that is professional, merit-driven, accountable and innovative, as well as responsive to the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
Enitan was born on December 12, 1966, and attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, for his secondary education.
He subsequently attended the University of Lagos, graduating in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking.
In 2015, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
