The Kano State Government has begun an immunisation campaign against diphtheria in five local government areas across the state.
This is contained in a statement on Monday signed by Ms Rukayya Suleiman, the state Risk Communication and Community Engagement Officer.
She said the exercise is being coordinated by the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC).
According to her, the campaign covers Dala, Fagge, Gwale, Kumbotso and Ungogo Local Government Areas.
She said urged residents, particularly those with unknown immunisation status, to make themselves available for vaccination.
Ms Rukayya also encouraged people whose last diphtheria vaccination was administered more than 10 years ago to receive another dose.
“The KNCDC is urging all citizens to get immunised against diphtheria,” she said.
She advised residents to participate in the exercise to protect themselves and their families against the preventable disease.
“Immunisation is safe, effective, and protects you from serious illness,” she said.
Rukayya encouraged residents to bring family members for vaccination, stressing the importance of collective efforts to prevent diphtheria. “Together, we can prevent diphtheria,” she said.
According to her, the exercise is being conducted in Dala Local Government Area covers Gobirawa and Kofar Ruwa wards.
In Fagge, she said vaccination teams were operating in Kwanchuri and Rijiyar Lemo wards.
She said residents of Dorayi and Kabuga wards in Gwale could also access the immunisation exercise.
Health Reporters Newspaper reports that the campaign covers Chiranchi, Naibawa and Panshekara wards in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
“In Ungogo, it is being carried out in Bachirawa, Gayawa and Rijiyar Zaki wards,” she said.
The campaign is aimed at strengthening protection against diphtheria and encouraging residents to maintain up-to-date immunisation.
