The Kano State Government has called on the media for support to ensure effective checking and monitoring of Routine Immunisation activities in the state.
The state Health Educator, Malam Auwal Bello, made the appeal during a review meeting with all stakeholders on immunisation in Kano.
Malam Bello underscored the need for the media to sensitise Nigerians on the risk of the country not being declared polio free if they relaxed in the war against completing.
However, he urged the media on effective reporting on the general conduct of routine immunisation at all facilities that offered the services.
Dr. Auwal Yakasai of Rotary International also called for more education and enlightenment to achieve the set objectives, adding that immunisation needed a social responsibility.
He further called on the public to avoid attaching sentiments to health related issues be it political, social or religious sentiments.
The state Focal Person for UNICEF, Malam Abubakar Gololo, expressed optimism that Nigeria would soon be declared polio free.
Malam Gololo lauded the reduction of threats posed by polio not only in Nigeria but across the globe, saying that the commitment of all development partners is behind the success.
Our correspondent report that a new vaccine, pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, was introduced to Kano early July 2016 with an aim to fight 10 killer diseases in children below the age of five.
