The Bauchi state Primary Health care Development Agency (SPHCDA) has procured over 30,000 of two live saving drugs, Misoprostol and chlorhexidine for distribution to communities in the state.
Misoprostol is a live saving drug use for prevention of excessive bleeding after child birth and chlorhexidine four per cent for new born umbilical cord care.
The state chairman of SPHCDA, Pharmacist Adamu I. Gamawa, disclosed this during the official launching of the commodity distribution to communities in Primary Health Care Miri.
He said this is in line with the five point health agenda ‘Lafiya Garkuwa’ of Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar’s administration, which is committed to the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality in the state.
According to him, NDHS 2013 report shows that twenty five per cent of maternal mortality in Nigeria is as a result of portum-haemorrhage.
He explained that Misoprostol which prevent and treat bleeding after delivery is orally administer and can be easily handle by any person.
Pharmacist Gamawa decried that, each year three million new born die globally while infection causes approximately thirteen percent of these deaths just the chairman caution the people on poor hygiene and sepsis at birth and in the first week of life increase the risk of deadly but preventable infections adding that chlorohexidine has an excellent safety record.
He commended all donor agencies and implementing partners for their numerous contributions, support and commitment towards improving the health of the people of the state.
