The Kano State Government said it is planning to spend N100 million for the forthcoming Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week,(MNCH).
The state Commissioner for health Health, Dr Kabiru Inrahim Getso disclosed this at a press conference held in Kano, ahead of the health
week.
The commissioner said that the previous MNCH week held in August 2018, recorded huge success, with Vitamin A supplementation coverage of
about 80 percent.
He explained that the 2019 week, is expected to achieve greater coverage, considering the increased support and commitment of the government and development partners.
Dr Getso said the week would render many services such as Vitamin A supplementation, de-worming of children aged between 11-59 months, as well as immunisation for children below the age of five.
“In addition, there would be screening of nutritional status for children below the age of five, birth registration, ante-natal services and malaria prophylaxis; for pregnant women.
Other services to be rendered according to Getso, include Child Birth spacing, HIV /AIDS counseling and testing services and demonstration of key household practices,” he said.
He, therefore, appealed to heads of households; to allow their families to benefit from the services to be rendered at 1,200 health facilities, across the 44 local government areas of the state.
Health Reporters learnt that the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCH) which was launched in Kano on Wednesday, would end on March 3, 2018.
