The Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) has called for includive implementaion of the African Union’s Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) for developing the Adaptable CSO Enhanced Engagement Framework (Version 4) for Africa Union Health Institutions.

In a statement issued Friday, AHBN said the innovative framework marks a significant step toward institutionalizing civil society participation within the African Union health architecture.

It provides a structured and adaptable pathway for CSOs to engage meaningfully in shaping and implementing Africa’s health agenda, in alignment with Agenda 2063.

The AHBN applauds ECOSOCC and its partners for their commitment to inclusive governance and evidence-based policymaking.

“We urge the African Union and its health institutions to ensure the full implementation of this framework to strengthen accountability, foster collaboration, and enhance the voice of civil society in advancing equitable health outcomes across the continent,” part of the statement read.

As a leading civil society coalition promoting transparency and accountability in health financing, AHBN emphasizes that meaningful CSO engagement must go beyond consultation.

“It should translate into shared decision-making, joint monitoring, and continuous dialogue. Such inclusivity will ensure that community priorities and grassroots realities are reflected in AU health programs and policies,” it added.

The AHBN further reiterates its readiness to collaborate with ECOSOCC, AU health agencies, and regional bodies to operationalize this framework through technical support, advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives that empower civil society actors to contribute effectively to Africa’s health transformation agenda.
