The Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) has commended the Borno State Government for the approval and authorising the release of ₦234,675,594.98 as Borno State’s 2025 contribution to the PHC-MoU Basket Fund.
The Coordinator of AHBN, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, made the commendation during the Zero Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) Peer Learning and Exchange Retreat on Immunization Accountability and Advocacy held in Abuja, with Community of Practice (CoP) members from Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto and Borno States
He also commended the Borno State Ministry of Health, and the Borno State Primary Healthcare Development Board (BoSPHCDB)
Dr Magashi further encouraged the Borno State Community of Practice (CoP) and other Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), to collaborate closely with the government to track resources and ensure their effective use in reducing the number of zero-dose children across the state.
Health Reporters Newspaper reports that the AHBN in partnership with the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) organised the three-day Peer Learning and Exchange Retreat under the Zero Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) project.
It was stated that the retreat aimed at renewing effort to combat the growing concern of zero dose children, that is children who have not received a single Routine Immunization vaccine.
Funded by GAVI, The Vaccine Alliance, the retreat, held in Abuja, convened over 30 stakeholders from national and sub-national levels across the four ZDLH implementing states of Bauchi, Borno, Kano and Sokoto, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The retreat with a theme: “Accountability, Equity and Sustainability in Reducing Zero Dose Children,” provided a collaborative platform for members of the Community of Practice (CoP) to review progress, share best practices, and co-create strategies aimed at improving immunization coverage in Nigeria.
The retreat reinforced the shared goal of reducing the number of zero dose children by improving accountability, equity, and sustainability in immunization programming.
During the retreat, each Chairs of the CoP, highlighted the progress in addressing zero dose children across the four states.
