The Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) has extended its congratulations to the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the allocation of N200,000,000 under the budget line “Health Promotion and Disease Prevention/IPC” with the budget code ERGP25217466.

This was contained in the 2025 Budget Proposal that was presented to a joint sitting of the National Assembly, last Wednesday by President Bola Ahmad Tinubu.

The AHBN also congratulated the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate and the Director General of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Jide Idris for the important milestone.

The organisation said the allocation is the result of collaborative efforts between the NCDC and the Non-Governmental Organisations, such as Resolve to Save Lives, AFENET and AHBN playing a pivotal role in advocating for the reinstatement and increase of the IPC budget line, which had been omitted in the 2024 budget.

This allocation marks a significant advancement in the strengthening of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) efforts in Nigeria.

The statement signed by AHBN Coordinator, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, noted with satisfaction the allocation of N2.48 trillion to the health sector.

“While the sum of N402 billion was budgeted for health infrastructure investment and N282 billion for Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) and many other critical areas for interventions.

“We are excited that the budget proposal addresses critical areas for intervention, including maternal healthcare, infectious disease control, and other vital health initiatives,” Dr Magashi said.

He added that the AHBN is looking forward to working with the government and other stakeholders, to ensure the successful implementation of this proposal and to promote a healthier, more prosperous future for all Nigerians.
