The Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) has been officially accredited as one of six regional non-State actors selected to participate in sessions of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa.
This was contained in a statement issued by the organization on Tuesday.
“We are thrilled to announce that the AHBN has been officially accredited as one of six regional non-State actors selected to participate in sessions of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa.
“This prestigious accreditation is granted for a period of two years and reflects the commitment of the organization to advancing health budget advocacy and strengthening health systems across Africa.”
The approval was granted by the Regional Committee upon the recommendation of the Programme Sub-committee.
The recognition allows AHBN to engage more actively in regional health dialogues, contribute valuable insights, and collaborate with key stakeholders to drive impactful health policies across the continent.
“Having considered and noted the report of the Secretariat on the accreditation of regional non-State actors not in official relations with WHO to participate in sessions of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa.
“The following six regional non-State actors recommended by the Programme
Sub-committee for accreditation to participate in sessions of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa.
“The African Forum for Research and Education in Health (AFREhealth); Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN); The Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA); Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF); African Media and Malaria Research Network (AMMREN) and Speak Up Africa,” the letter obtained by Health Reporters read.
The AHBN commended WHO for the opportunity and reaffirmed its mission to promote transparency, accountability, and equitable health financing.
“We are deeply grateful to the WHO Regional Committee for Africa for this opportunity and look forward to actively participating in shaping the future of healthcare in our region.
“As we embark on this new journey, we reaffirm our mission to promote transparency, accountability, and equitable health financing for all,” the AHBN said in a statement.
