The Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMG Foundation) has called on the Kano State House of Assembly to create a House Committee on Humanitarian Affairs.
The call was made in a letter sent to the Speaker of the Assembly, Jibril Isma’il Falgore by the Chairman of the foundation, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba on Friday.
This was contained in a statement by the AMG Foundation’s Director of Operations, Jalo Sulaiman.
It would be recall that the present administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had created Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in April, 2024 to alleviate poverty and address humanitarian crisis in the state.
“Kano State, one of the populous states in Nigeria is faced with flooding, high number of youth restiveness, climate change problems, high number of street children, women and homeless persons as well as food insecurity that requires humanitarian response.
“In view of the above, we write to seek your indulgence for the establishment of the State Assembly Humanitarian Affairs Committee that will provide overnight function and support the ministry in the discharge of its duties as well as support a legislation to establish Humanitarian Intervention Trust Fund,” Dr Magashi stated.
