The Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMGF) has donated bags of rice, maize, and groundnut oil to the Dawakin Kudu Rehabilitation Centre in Kano.
A statement issued by AMG Foundation’s Director of Operations, Jalo Sulaiman, said the donation was made on Tuesday by Chairman of the AMG Foundation, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, during a solidarity visit to the centre.
The visit was conducted jointly with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Kano State Social Protection Agency (KASPA), Office of the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor on Humanitarian Affairs and the AMG Foundation.
The team also visited Dorayi Rehabilitation Centre and the site of the ongoing construction of Dorayi Psychiatric Hospital.
Dr Magashi commended the Kano State Government’s efforts in constructing a state-owned psychiatric hospital and the evacuation of over 200 mentally ill persons from Kano streets to the Dawakin Kudu Rehabilitation Centre.
He described the effort as timely and underscoring the state government’s humanitarian commitment to making Kano streets free of mentally ill persons.
At the Dawakin Kudu Rehabilitation Center, officials thanked the AMG Foundation for the donation, saying it would complement government efforts in managing the in-patients.
Speakers included Hajiya Amina ‘Yar Gaya, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency and Dr. Fatima Abubakar Abdullahi (Amneef), Director General, Kano Social Protection Agency.
