The Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMG Foundation) has honoured health workers in Borno State for their exceptional healthcare service delivery in their respective Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs).
The awardees were recognised during a ceremony for the 4th Dr Aminu Magashi Garba’s Annual Awards for health workers, held at the held at Amada International Hotels, Maiduguri, Borno State.
The recipients of this year’s award include; Dr Dauda Anto Waziri from Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, who was recognized as the Most Dedicated PHC Staff (Male), while Mrs Falmata Musa from Biu Local Government Area was honored as the Most Dedicated PHC Staff (Female).
Mr Ali Mohammed received the Most Committed Volunteer PHC Staff award, and Falmata Abatcha from Nganzai Local Government Area was recognized as the Most Patient-Friendly PHC Staff (Female), while Karumi Sanda from Konduga Local Government Area received the Most Patient-Friendly PHC Staff (Male) award.
Also, Ali Musa from Jere Local Government Area and Mrs Yagana Saleh from Monguno Local Government Area were honoured as the Best Performing Local Government Officers.
Health Reporters Newspaper reports that the AMG Foundation initiated the awards to recognize and appreciate the hard work of frontline health workers.
Speaking at the event, which coincided with the Zero Dose Learning Hub quarterly meeting, Dr Magashi emphasized the importance of acknowledging the contributions of healthcare workers.
“I have a desk and shelves full of awards, I don’t need them anymore, I rather prefer it to go to the frontline workers, and that is how the idea of initiating an annual award in my name came about,” he said.
Dr Magashi said the AMG Foundation has been hosting the awards annually, with the aim of motivating healthcare workers to continue delivering quality services.
He noted that the awards are a way to “motivate health workers to continue delivering quality services.”
The AMG Foundation plans to extend the awards to other states, apart from the existing four, and introduce a new category for health journalists.
