The Aminu Magashi Garba (AMG Foundation) has honoured five outstanding frontline health workers in Sokoto State for their dedication and commitment to effective healthcare provision.
The AMG Foundation recognized the dedication and resilience of the health professionals and advocates in Sokoto State, presenting them with Awards of Excellence for their outstanding contributions to the health sector, particularly in immunization and community health development.
The awards were presented during the Zero Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) Community of Practice quarterly review meeting, held in Sokoto and organized in partnership with the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN).
Speaking at the ceremony, Founder of the AMG Foundation and National Coordinator of AHBN, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, noted that the award symbolizes appreciation for those working tirelessly at the grassroots to improve access to healthcare for women and children.

“These are unsung heroes-community leaders, health workers, and advocates—who are shaping a healthier future for Sokoto State,” Dr. Magashi said. “Their dedication to ensuring that every child receives life-saving vaccines deserves recognition and support.”
The awardees were drawn from various sectors, including public health officials, local government health educators, civil society actors, and members of the Sokoto CoP who have demonstrated excellence in service delivery and advocacy.
Presenting the 4th Dr Aminu Magashi Annual Award of Excellence in Sokoto State, Dr Magashi congratulated the awardees and emphasized that the award was instituted to annually identify and honour unsung frontline health workers whose dedication and commitment are worthy of commendation, with the aim of motivating them to excel further.
The awardees were presented with framed certificates and cash prizes of N50,000.00 each. The Winners of the fourth edition are; Sadiya Salihu (Most Dedicated PHC Staff), Sani Tukur (Most Committed Volunteer PHC Staff), Murtala Iliyasu (Most Patient-Friendly PHC Staff), Aliyu Ahmed (Most Hygienic PHC Staff) and Abubakar Muhammad (Best Performing LGA Immunization Officer).

In his remarks, Mallam Umar Garba Kadi, the Sokoto AHBN/ZDLH State Focal Person, expressed gratitude to the AMG Foundation for encouraging motivation and accountability through recognition.
He described the initiative as a morale booster that would “spur greater commitment toward achieving zero zero-dose children in Sokoto State.”
The AMG Foundation’s Award of Excellence is part of a broader initiative to promote excellence, transparency, and motivation within Nigeria’s health workforce, with a focus on advancing the objectives of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and improved immunization outcomes.
