The Chair of the AMG Foundation, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, has announced empowerment support targeting 100 of repentant thugs in Kano State.
Announcing the empowerment support on Friday, in Sokoto State while marking his 52nd birthday, Dr Magashi emphasised that the AMG Foundation will collaborate with YOSPIS, the Kano State Police Command, and the Kano State Government to successfully implement this support.
In a statement issued by AMG Foundation Director of Operations, Mallam Jalo Sulaiman, said the empowerment support will run over a period of three months and include training in phone repairs, solar installation and repairs.
He added that some of the youth will be empowered with locally-made trucks for transporting goods in various markets, thereby facilitating economic engagement.
Health Reporters Newspaper reports that the support, with an expected funding of N5 million, aims to reintegrate the youths as productive members of society.
The empowerment coincided with the commemoration of the two-year anniversary of the handover of over 600 repentant thugs to the Kano State Government by the Kano State Police Command under the leadership of former Commissioner of Police, AIG Muhammad Usaini Gumel on October 17, 2023.
The event also coincided with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty observed annually on October 17,
Notably, the AMG Foundation had earlier trained 50 of the repentant thugs in fire safety skills, in partnership with the Federal Fire Service, Kano State Police Command, and the YOSPIS.
