AMGF trains NAWOJ Members on Ethical Journalism Practice

Women journalists drawn from various media organizations in Kano State have benefited from a capacity-building workshop organized byaimed at strengthening professionalism, skills development, and ethical journalism practice among female media practitioners.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Kano State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Bahijja Malam Kabara and Assistant Secretary of NAWOJ, Aisha Muhammad Yanleman.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, Comrade Sulaiman Dederi, who was represented by Mustafa Muhammad Gambo, described the workshop as timely and highly relevant, particularly at a time when the media landscape is rapidly evolving and demands continuous capacity enhancement.

In her remarks, the Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, Bahijja Malam Kabara, urged non-governmental organizations, development partners, and philanthropists to emulate the Aminu Garba Magashi Foundation in investing in the training and development of upcoming women journalists in the state.

She emphasized that such initiatives are critical to nurturing competent, confident, and responsible female journalists.

Bahijja Malam Kabara also encouraged NAWOJ members to actively participate in workshops, seminars, and professional gatherings, noting that consistent engagement in such programs would strengthen the association and enhance members’ professional competence.

She expressed profound appreciation to Aminu Garba Magashi for providing what she described as a “giant opportunity” for women journalists in Kano State.

Also speaking, the Secretary of NAWOJ, Kano State Chapter, Comrade Maryam Muhammad Yakasai, reaffirmed the association’s readiness to initiate and collaborate on more impactful programs that would further enhance the professional development of women journalists across the state.

In their separate remarks, participants Dalal, Aisha J. Ahmad, and Halima Wada Sinkin expressed deep appreciation to the Aminu Garba Magashi Foundation for the training.

They pledged to effectively apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the workshop to improve their professional practice and contribute positively to the media industry.

The workshop concluded with a renewed call for sustained collaboration between media organizations, civil society groups, and philanthropic foundations to support the growth and empowerment of women journalists in Kano State.

The workshop featured seasoned facilitators and resource persons, including Comrade Uba Abdullahi, Lirwan’i Idris Malikawa Garu, Comrade Aliyu Yusuf, and Comrade Murtala Adewale, Chairman, Correspondents’ Chapel, who delivered insightful lectures on contemporary journalism practices, media ethics, and professional growth.
