The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the National Orthopaedic Hospital Dala (NOHD) Kano State has presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr Aminu Magashi Garba for his participation and contribution as a panelist during the Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference, 2024 of the association held Friday at the NOHD auditorium.
The conference tagged “Protect those who protect health” and themed “Preventing violence in health care: A shared responsibility” brought together panelists from diverse fields who shared their perspectives on the theme.
Represented by the AMG Foundation Director Operations, Dr Magashi pointed that violence in health care has become a growing concern and its prevention is crucial and requires multifaceted approach to ensure the safety and well-being of healthcare workers, patients and their relatives.
He further highlighted conducting of risk assessment to identify potential risk and take steps to mitigate them, installing of security cameras, developing of a zero-tolerance policy, providing regular training to health care providers on violence prevention and management among others as strategies to prevent violence in health care.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has on September 2024 appointed Dr Magashi as Technical Adviser for the state’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The landmark decision aims to bolster the State’s humanitarian and poverty alleviation efforts.
Dr. Magashi brings over 30 years of experience in development and humanitarian work to the role.
His credentials and dedication to public service have earned him recognition as a pivotal figure in achieving the administration’s humanitarian goals.
His notable roles include serving as Chair of the AMG Foundation, leading the Health Policy and Planning Committee of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), and being the pioneering coordinator of the Kano State Cancer Care Centre (KCCC).
He also led the technical committee that developed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s campaign blueprint in 2022, as well as Chairman of the sub-committee on Health in the Transition Committee.
As a Technical Adviser, Dr. Magashi is expected to guide the ministry in developing impactful strategies that address the pressing needs of people of Kano state.
